Core issue
In order to use the FlexWAN module, a Supervisor Engine with an Multilayer Switch Feature Card (MSFC) and a Policy Feature Card (PFC) is necessary. Configure the FlexWAN module through the MSFC.
These are the software requirements:
For systems with Cisco IOS Software on the Supervisor Engine 720:
- Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(14)SX or later
For systems with Cisco IOS Software on both the Supervisor Engine 2 and MSFC2:
- Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(8a)E or later on both the Supervisor Engine and MSFC2
For systems with Cisco IOS Software on both the Supervisor Engine 1 and MSFC or MSFC2:
- Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(5a)E1 or later on both the Supervisor Engine and MSFC or MSFC2
For systems with Cisco Catalyst software on the Supervisor Engine and Cisco IOS Software on the MSFC or MSFC2:
- MSFC: Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(1)EX or later
- Supervisor Engine software: Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Supervisor Engine software release 5.4(2) or later
For systems with Cisco Catalyst software on the Supervisor Engine 720 and Cisco IOS software on the MSFC3:
- MSFC3: Cisco IOS Release 12.2(14)SX2 or later
- Supervisor Engine 720 software: Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Supervisor Engine software release 8.1(1) or later
Resolution
Make sure that compatible software is running.
If the show module status indicates other, attempt to re-seat the module first.
Issue the (config)# card type {t1/e1} slot {slot no:} command in the config mode if the module show controllers or show run commands do not show the module after the re-seat is performed.
If the problem is not resolved, open a case with Cisco Technical Support.
