I’m hoping you can help me with my understanding of IaC and in particular the pros and cons of a full IaC solution vs automating common repeatable tasks via ansible?
For example if I’m building a new fabric what benefits do I get from using IaC going forward? What does it give me that bulk deployments using ansible doesn’t? I know that IaC allows me to enforce policy etc, but this can also be enforced by good process, change control etc. I guess on the flip side of this and maybe more importantly what opportunities would I miss out on in the future by not deploying IaC, so if I deployed a new fabric using NDFC and NDO what limitations/benefits would I miss out on in the future?
There is also the issue of upskilling engineers etc to use Git, Ansible, pipelines etc to support IaC which isn’t a trivial task.
I feel like I’m missing something fundamental here as to what the real benefits of IaC are so any thoughts, examples would be appreciated.
