OpenDNS Filtering stops working regularly (2024)

Hi everyone,

I’ve been experiencing an issue where OpenDNS filtering works for a period of time, but then suddenly stops functioning as expected.

I’ve also updated the IPv6 DNS addresses on my router to 2620:119:35::35 and 2620:119:53::53, as they were previously set to "default."

Lastly, I’ve come across these CMD commands in other posts:

  • nslookup -type=txt debug.opendns.com.
  • nslookup -type=txt which.opendns.com. 208.67.220.123
  • nslookup www.exampleadultsite.com.
  • netsh interface ip show dns

Here is the output I’m getting:

[OUTPUT START]

Update 30/8/24:

Yesterday I used the command "ipconfig /flushdns" which temporarily resolved the issue for 1 day.

Today all website filtering stopped working again and the CMD command doesn't work anymore.

Thank you

Could you please post the resolution if any?

It appears that the device that ran the diagnostic has an IP address of (151.28.1.142) However this IP address is not currently registered with OpenDNS. The OpenDNS filtering will only apply to networks registered with OpenDNS.

If your IP address is static then you will need to change the IP address in the OpenDNS dashboard.
If your network has an IP address that changes then please use the OpenDNS Dynamic Updater Client on one of the computers that is on the network.
Installing and using the Updater Client will ensure that your selected network settings are applied to the proper network and that your network statistics are accurate, even when your network's IP address changes: <https://support.opendns.com/hc/en-us/articles/227987867-What-is-the-OpenDNS-Dynamic-IP-updater-client- >

In addition if you are using a IPv6 address in either your DNS settings on your computer or router please note that unfortunately at this time, we are not able to provide content filtering to users who have configured our IPv6 DNS servers on their router or their computers. Details on how to disable IPv6 are available here here: [How to disable IPv6](https://support.opendns.com/hc/en-us/articles/227988887-How-to-Disable-IPv6)
