Personally i would suggest to both side should be same, But some time Other vendor Like telco they have their own equiment and SFP, as long as it meet wave legnth should be ok to communicate each other.

If optical transceivers on both sides are for same standard, and fiber run also meets standard, usually brand of transceivers shouldn't matter.

Whether a Cisco SFP port will work with a brand X transceiver is a different matter.
