On the M4 and M5 Hyperflex converged nodes, they came factory prepped with a current version of ESXi preinstalled (60 day trial).
There are currently 6.5U3, 6.7U3, and 7.0U2 HX customized ISOs that can be reapplied to the nodes.
For instance, going to https://software.cisco.com/download/home/286305544/type/286305994/release/4.5(2b) under the 'Related Software section' you will see entries like:
- CISCO HX Custom Image for ESXi 7.0 U2 e Install CD for fresh install or reimage of hosts. Do not use for upgrading ESXi.HX-ESXi-7.0U2-19290878-Cisco-Custom-7.2.0.8-install-only.iso
You would mount this ISO via vKVM.
Some customers choose to reimage to a specific version of ESXi (that we have a HX customized image for) prior to HX cluster deployment, rather than go through post deployment upgrades. ESXi Upgrades are an option, and in the same download area you would download the ,zip offline bundle such as:
CISCO HX Custom Image for ESXi 7.0 U2 e Offline Bundle
for Upgrading from prior ESXi versions
HX-ESXi-7.0U2-19290878-Cisco-Custom-7.2.0.8-upgrade-bundle.zip
