auto-sense capabilies with speed/duplex set

We have all our servers connecting to switches with the speed / duplex settings staticall set to 100 M full duplex. the problem we have is that we are connecting some firewalls running Linux and only support auto sensing. If we set the speed/duplex settings on the switch it will stop advertising its capabilities. therefore it will be full at the switch and half at the server as it believes the device is not capable of full duplex operation.

Is there any way to set the speed/duplex and get the switch to only advertise the setting it has set, as a capability for autosensing clients? I know we can set both ends as auto but we do not like to rely on this and setting one end is preferable.

The switches in question are either 3500, 2948, 6500 and 3550

Any help gratefully received.

We usually recommend, either auto on both sides or hard corded on both sides not like the way you mentioned, since there is def, a good chance of misconfiguration. Here is some more info on the auto negotiation- hope this helps

What flavor of Linux doesn't support manual speed/duplex settings? I've never heard of such a thing.
