hello,
i have a fa4/3 port and i want to use it as a router interface instead of a switchport.
this is because i have to do a rate-limit both directions on that port.
now - i don't know why .... but it doesn't work ... the rate-limit ...
here is what we have:
cisco7606 - native IOS
switchr#sh mls qos
QoS is enabled globally
Microflow policing is enabled globally
Vlan or Portchannel(Multi-Earl) policies supported: Yes
Egress policies supported: No
----- Module [1] -----
QoS global counters:
Total packets: 2262974
IP shortcut packets: 0
Packets dropped by policing: 631
IP packets with TOS changed by policing: 32055
IP packets with COS changed by policing: 0
Non-IP packets with COS changed by policing: 0
interface FastEthernet4/3
description Link to cx
ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.248
no ip proxy-arp
rate-limit input access-group 152 256000 1500 2000 conform-action transmit exceed-action drop
rate-limit output access-group 152 256000 1500 2000 conform-action transmit exceed-action drop
load-interval 30
no cdp enable
end
access-list 152 is there and it's working because i saw matches on it.
FastEthernet4/3 is up, line protocol is up
Internet address is 192.168.1.1/29
Broadcast address is 255.255.255.255

Local Proxy ARP is disabled
Security level is default
Split horizon is enabled
ICMP redirects are always sent
ICMP unreachables are always sent
ICMP mask replies are never sent
IP fast switching is enabled

IP Flow switching is disabled
IP CEF switching is enabled

Probe proxy name replies are disabled
Policy routing is disabled

so .... i don't understand what's happening ... it looks like those IP packets don't go through the rate-limit process ...
thx.

The 6500/7600 can *not* do rate limiting on output. This is a hardware
limitation (specifically, a PFC2 limitation), and does not depend on
CatOS vs native IOS.
I'm not sure if the same limitation applies on OSMs.
