Hi, we're currently running cisco 2611 router. The problem is duruing busy hour many users try to download stuff from the internet at the same and that take alot of our bandwidth, that also slow down other user surfing the web. What i would like to do is set a rule that downloading could only take up to 30% of the bandwidth or the http traffic has more priority than any other. would this posible? Thanks

Hi,

To achieve this, I can suggest you to implement NBAR (Network Based Application Recognition) your router. The minimum IOS you need on 2600 series routers are 12.1(5)T.

By using this, you can police the tyoe of traffic and set the threshold for traffic, not to corss the pre-defined rate. If it does so you can mention either to drop the traffic or permit based on its type.

In this you can mention the application names directly like kazaa, ftp apps, URLs, RTP etc.
