"port group" vs etherchannel what is the difference 2900XL

I am wanting to know if theres a diference between port group in the older switches such as a 2900xl and an etherchannel. Other than the fact that the older switches dont support Port Aggregation Protocol. Are etherchannel and port group exactlly the same? Please explain as much as you can.

They are the same. XL/2950 switches running 12.0 code uses "port group" commands while other switches running 12.1 and higher use "channel group" commands.
