sho top on 6513

We are getting alarms in openview and infovista that show network bottlenecks on some of our HPUX servers. However when I do sho top on the 6513 I can rarely get utilization over 50%. The cause of these spikes is most likely the EDM backups. Is it true that when you look at show top on the 6513 the only way you will hit 100% is if the traffic is maxed out in both directions? I presume this is why a ftp will only sho 50-55% utilization (for the most part a one way transfer). In short, should I begin setting up fast ether channel when a port nears 50% or 100%?

Yes, adding more links to an Etherchannel that is very heavily used or saturated can never be a bad thing. Ensure you're etherchannel load balancing is set in such a way that your specific data flows and patterns of traffic can take advantage of all links in the bundle.
