RV042 firmware update

Hello all, I have a RV042 small business router (silver one) which reads firmware 1.3.12.6-tm

I want to see what is the latest firmware I can patch it up to and where I can download.

Thanks!

M.

Hello Moises,

Thank you for using the Small Business Support Community. My name is Taylor, and I hope I can help you with your question.

As of this writing, the latest firmware for the RV042 Dual WAN VPN Router is version 4.2.3.03. This firmware can be downloaded here: https://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=282414010&softwareid=282465789&release=4.2.3.03

If you would like to view the release notes for this firmware version, they can be viewed here: http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/routers/csbr/rv0xx/release/RV0xx_RN_4-2-3-03.pdf

I also found an article in our database about upgrading the firmware on the RV042 which can be viewed here: http://sbkb.cisco.com/CiscoSB/GetArticle.aspx?docid=966cbcfe7de64f01af95bbf74180d7ce_Upgrade_the_Firmware.xml&pid=2&converted=0

Thanks Taylor,

it seemed really hard finding the info from the site...go figure...

One more question - mine is one of the older routers, is there a cutoff where each is supported, do I need to look at version whatever vs the latest?

Hello Moises,

According to the download page, version 4.2.3.03 is only supported by devices with version 3 hardware. You can check your router's hardware version by logging into the web configuration utility and navigating to the System Summary page. The PID VID field will show the device name and hardware version (i.e. RV042G V01). This information can also be found on the underside of the RV042 in the PID VID box. Note that this restriction doesn't apply to the RV042G model.

Since you mentioned that your device is silver, it sounds like it's one of the older ones (with Linksys branding on the top) and therefore not supported by this firmware version. There are multiple versions of the RV042 router, and each iteration is supported by different firmware versions (version 1 uses 1.x firmware, version 2 uses 2.x, and so on). If your router is indeed an original version 1 Linksys device, I found the latest firmware for that model here: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/routers/ps9923/ps9925/RV042_Firmware.zip

As always, if you have any additional questions feel free to post them here and I will do my best to help you!

Taylor

It is version 1.1

Hello,

Thank you for the information.

The RV042 V1.1 was replaced by the RV042 V3 and more recently was upgraded to the RV042G.

Unfortunately, the firmware downloads for V1.1 are not longer available as not more firmware versions have been or will be released for that version of hardware.

I hope this helps.
