R1===Area 0==R2===Area 1===R3===Area 0===R4

This topology is not working as expected. Then, I was adding an virtual link between R2 and R3 to make two Area 0 connected. But after I added the command area 0 virtuallink on both R2 and R3, the virtual link won’t come up.

I have literally, configure from the beginning, as following steps:

1.       Configure R1===Area 0==R2===Area 1===R3,

2.       Then add virtual link between R2 and R3,

3.       Add R4 as part of Area 0.

4.   Then, it works.

My question for you is, why in the first scenario, it doesn’t work? It looks like the OSPF sensed this topology and does some kind of blocking there.

Can anyone shed light on?

Thanks,

Han

Hi,

Area 0 Cant be a virtual link, you need to specify (Area 1) as a Virtual Link between R2 and R3. to connect the partitioned Area 0 backbone.

According to OSPF Structure, AREA-0 is the backbone Area and Can Not be a virtual Link.

Mohamed
