BGP to EIGRP redistribution using Viptela

Chad Parish

Question.  will Viptela's SD-WAN allow for BGP to EIGRP route redistribution?

OMP automatically redistributes the following types of routes that it learns either locally or from its routing peers:

  • Connected
  • Static
  • OSPF intra-area routes
  • OSPF inter-area routes

To avoid routing loops and less than optimal routing, redistribution of following types of routes requires explicit configuration:

  • BGP
  • OSPF external routes

OMP is overlay routing protocol which control all the routing functionality and get differently identified using TLOC

Hi

V-edge devices don't support eigrp as far as i know.

However, if you're using eigrp as dynamic routing protocol, you can do a bgp (as example) interconnection between vedge and your core switches and then your core switches will handle the redistribution from bgp to eigrp and vice versa

Thanks
Francesco

Hi,

What Francesco has advised is the best approach.

My recommendation is, to only consider redistribution between OMP protocol and an existing routing protocol inside your LAN always.

OMP is Viptela internal routing/signalling protocol that needs to be redistributed into IGP or BGP routing protocols so your Viptela Fabric will be reachable through rest of the network.
