SRW248G4 console port

Hi,

I want to configure my SRW248G4 switch thru console port. Unfortunately in this switch there is no RJ45 console port input, I can only see cosole port that is look like RS232 input. I bought two standard cisco console cables that have one end with db9 and one with RJ45.

Now I have and idea to put one end of one cable (db9) to switch, and one end (db9) of second cable in my computer (COM input/output)

I need to connect two RJ45 together - this is not a problem, I know how to do this. Here is the question :

I know how pinout in my computer look like but i can't find pinout of console port in my SRW248G4. There is many pictures in Internet, for many Cisco devices but this isn't working. Maybe in LINKSYS pinout look different ? Does anyone has any experience with this topic and can help me ?

regards Wilq

Thank you very much for your answer. If i understood everything correctly i just need to connect :

1 - Data Carrier Detect       with      -nothing (in RJ45 i have only 8 cables)

2 - Received Data              with      3 - Transmitted Data

3 - Transmitted Data          with      2 - Received Data

4 - Data Terminal Ready     with      6 - Data Set Ready

5 - Signal Ground               with     5 - Signal Ground

6- Data Set Ready             with      4 - Data Terminal Ready

7 - Request to Send           with      8 - Clear to Send

8 - Clear to Send                with     7 - Request to Send

9 - Ring Indicator                with     -(nothing in RJ45 i have only 8 cables)

Setup my console conection with settings from user manual

Bits per second: 38,400

Data bits: 8

Parity: None

Stop bits: 1

Flow control: None

And this is all ? This should work without problems ?

Sorry to ask again in one topic but i just need to be sure.

regards Wilq

Yes this should work just fine. What I do, I actually have the serial cable (female female) and I use an USB adapter, but it works all the same. If you can find any generic db9 female/female it will work just as well.

The USB to serial adapter I use is made by Prolific if that helps any.
