DX 80 Assistance

i purchased the DX 80. I'm trying to manually input the H323 settings in the device but I'm not seeing the option. I was told when I purchased the device that I could do so. I understand that I can input them using a web interface but I'm on a private network that can't. Please assist. Thank you

Hello,

Are you running the CE code or Android Based Code?  If you are running Android Based Code, you cannot put in H323 Settings, as it is required to run with CUCM, and won't dial H323, but SIP only.  You would have to transition from Android based code to CE software.

Also, if you are on a private network, you should be able to connect a pc to the network with the appropriate network settings and browse to the IP address of the DX 80.  The web interface of Cisco Collaboration Endpoints, do not require "Internet Access", but while on the local area network, you can browse to the IP address or FQDN, if you have DNS setup.

The DX80 must be running Collaboration Endpoint (CE) software, as Android software only supports SIP.  If you don't have network access to the DX80, you can use any of the below methods to configure the H323 settings:

  • Provision with TMSPE via VCS using Startup Wizard
  • Web Interface

I need to set up the device on a secured network that cannot connect to the Internet. If I have the IP to the device can I use a computer to connect to the device via Ethernet to input the H323 settings. I currently  have the ex90 I was going to purchase another ex90 but the Cisco rep stated that device reached its EOL. So I purchased this device hoping it will do the same whereas I can manually input your the IPsetting as well as H323 settings. I'm in the military which our devices cannot connect to the Internet.

If the DX80 has an IP address, then you can either access the same network that it's connected to, or put the DX80 on your network long enough to configure it via the web interface.

EX90 hasn't even been announced as EOS yet, not sure what you've been told, you can see it's not listed in the EX Series EOS/EOL Annoucements.  However with the DX70/80 now capable of running Collaboration Endpoint (CE) software, the DX80 is most likely getting closer to being at that point with each new CE release.

I agree with you, Patrick, connecting to the network and web interface will work, and the EX series are not EOS/EOL, I have heard they will be around for a little while longer.  Given the choice, personally I would rather have the EX90 as it is capable of multi-party calls, where as the DX series are not, and would require a bridge, MCU, or some other means to be in a multi-party call.  The DX series can only do point-to-point calls without adding a mult-party capable device in the picture.  My guess, however, is that most people probably use the desktop devices for point-to-point calls.  Don't get me wrong both the EX and DX series are nice devices, but the mult-party call is just an option I and my previous customers preferred..

I've heard rumours of the EoS announcement on the EX90 being "end of Jan/early Feb" and the TC software EoL date also being announced around then too..

So that doesn't leave a lot of time left on those devices.

EoS/EoL will be announced on 2/1 for EX90.  I believe the EoS is August 2017 if I remember correctly.

You should be able to get an IP address from the Menu of the DX80. 

Alternatively, if your Collaboration Endpoints are getting IP addresses via DHCP, which is default, then, you can get the IP address of the DX80 via the DHCP server.

The DHCP address can be coming from a Cisco Router, Cisco Switch, Microsoft Server, Linux Server, or some other Networking Devices.  If the DX80 is registering to CUCM, or TMS, you can get the IP address from either of those. 

Once you get the IP address, with a computer that is connected to the same network, you can enter the IP address in a web browser such as Firefox, and then you should be able to configure your settings.  By the way, I am a DoD Contractor, and the different networks I have maintained, were not allowed to have internet access either, but we had computers (PCs and Servers) on the network, and were able to manage the endpoints either via web-browsing directly into the device, or through some management system such as CUCM or TMS.
