How do I pair a touch panel on private ip address to SX20 on public address?

We have customer with SX20 on a private network IP address in their remote office that had a 8" Touch panel paired on the same subnet/switch.  They now have moved the SX20 to public IP address (still connected to same switch) and want to pair the 8" Touch Panel with it again (Panel is on a private IP address on same switch).  First time they attempted pairing it locked up the SX20.  Do we need to assign a public IP address to 8"panel to pair it with the SX20 on a similar IP address?  What are the setup options we can consider?

Both the SX20 and Touch Panel should be in the same subnet, so, yes, it's porbably best if the touch panel had an IP address in the public segment to be paired with the SX20.

Is there a specific reason they need to have the SX20 outside - could they not use the NAT settings and have the SX20 (and the touch as well) on the inside network?
