What is the current version of your system is running?

On the CE 8.0 Release Note:

Upgrading to Collaboration Endpoint Software from TC7.3.0 and TC7.3.1 is not supported via the web interface. These software versions have been deferred from cisco.com and are no longer available. Upgrading from these software versions via TMS or CUCM will work.

Please refer to the Release Note for more detail. Under page 28 you can find the interoperability information.

TC and CE software are similar, CE software is based off of TC software and is the new software going forward for SX and MX endpoints. Be sure to read the CE8.0 Release Notes carefully so you can make an informed decision wether or not you should upgrade to CE8.0 or remain on TC7.3 for the time being. Note that TC software is also in maintenance mode, so if you remain with it, the only updates that would be released for it are security or bug fixes, no major features will be added.

Hello,

I can't upgrade version TC 7.3.6 to CE 8 ! After upgrade I can't make any calls, and see log below:

CRITICAL: Valid Release Key

Missing release key. The system will not be able to make any calls. Please add a valid release key.

Can you help me ? I use remote control TRC5, for CE 8 version I need to use TRC6 OK, but for upgrade I need to buy release key too?

There are '2' ways you can get the Software Release key one by contacting Cisco TAC & second once you Login to Product License Registration Portal with your Cisco credentials, https://slexui.cloudapps.cisco.com/SWIFT/LicensingUI/Quickstart#.

And then click on Get Licenses Drop-down and Telepresence software release key & it will prompt you to enter the serial number of your Gen 2 codec(SX or MX).

So, if I want a use version CE instead TC with a new control TRC6, I need to buy a release key? Is it ?

This can happen if you've upgraded from a "TCNC" to a "TC" software load, or, similarly from "TCNC" to "CE" rather than "CENC".  If you change form the "non-crypto" version to the version that contains crypto, or vice versa, you will need a new release key.

To fix this, you will either need to re-load the "CE" or "CENC" version of the software on to the endpoint that matches whatever you had before, or, you will need to obtain a release key through the Cisco TAC (Note: the "crypto" version is not available in all countries).

To add a release key, refer to this other thread: How to add release key to SX20 TC7.1.0

No release key is needed if you want to upgrade from TC to CE software. If you're running TC6.1 and later, release keys are not needed for software upgrades, however an active service contract for the endpoint must be associated with your Cisco.com account in order to download the software.
