FlexPod Tenant Onboarding with Secure Datastore WORKFLOW v1.0






This workflow follows the Tenant
  Onboarding with Secure Datastore (using VMware Distributed Virtual Switch)
  process documented in NetApp TR-4298
  (Managing NetApp FlexPod with Cisco UCS
  Director).  This technical report is

  1. Add Group
  2. Add User
  3. Create Cluster vServer
  4. Assign vServer to Group
  5. Generate VLAN from Pool
  6. Add Vlan
  7. Assign CUIC VLAN to Group
  8. Create VLAN (on first Nexus switch)
  9. Update Trunk (on first Nexus switch)
  10. Create VLAN (on second Nexus switch)
  11. Update Trunk (on second Nexus switch)
  12. CUSTOM:  Get Tenant
      Onboarding IP values
  13. Create DVPortGroup
  14. Assign DVPortGroup to Group
  15. Add VM Kernel Port Group
  16. Create Cluster VLAN Interface (on first cDOT node)
  17. Create Cluster VLAN Interface (on second cDOT node)
  18. Create Cluster Export Policy
  19. Create Cluster Export Rule
  20. Create Cluster Flexible Volume
  21. Mount Cluster Volume
  22. Associate Cluster Volume as NFS Datastore
  23. Assign Datastore to Group


User Inputs:


  • Tenant Name
  • Tenant Contact Email
  • Datastore Size
  • Size Units
  • Storage Cluster Node placement
  • Storage Cluster Aggregate placement




  • All required component/devices must be added to UCS Director
  • The vSphere cluster to be used must have a DV switch available
  • Create a VLAN pool policy for tenant VLANs
  • CUSTOM TASK:  Get Tenant
      Onboarding IP values




  • To simplify required inputs, this example workflow uses an
      auto-generated IP schema which limits the number of tenants to 255.  To extend beyond this limit, the workflow
      should be modified to integrate with an IP management system.

Instructions for Use:

  1. Download the attached .ZIP file below to your computer.
    *Remember the location of the saved file on your computer.
  2. Unzip the file on your computer. Should end up with a .WFD file.
  3. Log in to UCS Director as a user that has
    "system-admin" privileges.
  4. Navigate to "Policies-->Orchestration" and click on
  5. Click "Browse" and navigate to the location on your
    computer where the .WFD file resides. Choose the .WFD file and click "Open".
  6. Click "Upload" and then "OK" once the file
    upload is completed. Then click "Next".
  7. Click the "Select" button next to "Import
    Workflows". Click the "Check All" button to check all checkboxes
    and then the "Select" button.
  8. Click "Submit".
  9. A new folder should appear in
    "Policies-->Orchestration" that contains the imported workflow.
    You will now need to update the included tasks with information about the
    specific environment.
