Cisco IM and Presence 10.5.1 Ova Deployment Error

Mazzy Star

We have a BE6000, we have successfully setup the CUCM 10.5 and Paging Server 9.0.1, But we're having trouble on the fresh re-installation of IM and Presence 10.5.1 when we're deploying its OVA. The system calls for a Halt during 2:45 remaining hours for Installation. Please see attached file for the error encountered.

Hello everyone.

Since I had the same issue, what I did to fix it was to delete the IM&P server from System > Server section and add it back again when the re-installation script notified me that this was not the first node in the cluster. After that it passed through the db installation (it took a while though I thought it would fail again) to the presence component installation. It looks like this is only happening when you try to re-install the IM&P after you have done it once and put the server in the cluster already one time (like deleting the VM and creating a new one).

How many servers are already running on your BE server and is it a high or medium density server?  Just double check you are not exceeding the number of applications allowed on your server?

Also whats the OVA template you are using?

Normally this kind of error points a wrong OVA/unsupported hardware, but could be anything a Bug or any other issue.

Did you also try to delete and deploy a fresh template and see if it makes any difference?

Hi Terry,

We have a BE6K -H, and we have only 2 Application Servers Running : CUCM and Paging Server and the 3rd will be the IM and Presence supposedly.

Here's the Ova that we are using:

cucm_im_p_10.5_vmv8_v1.0.ova

and the Bootable ISO:

Bootable_UCSInstall_CUP_10.5.1.10000-9.sgn

Hardware look good. Both the OVA and Bootable image looks good as well. But still can you try using this latest available OVA from Cisco website:

Ref: https://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=286269517&flowid=50462&softwareid=283757588&release=10.5&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest

Try deleting the previous OVA and deploy a fresh OVA, the latest version as per above and see how it goes.

Thanks Terry, We'll try that OVA later.

Hi Terry,

We tried the new OVA, but it still didn't push thru with the installation, same error still.

Can you confirm you are adding this server to the CUCM before proceeding with installation. review the pre-reqs if you are missing anything:

Ref: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/install/10_0_1/CUCM_BK_I95AD2FE_00_installing-cucm-100/CUCM_BK_I95AD2FE_00_installing-cucm-100_chapter_011.html

Perform pre-installation tasks for IM and Presence nodes

You must complete the following pre-installation tasks before you begin to install the IM and Presence software.

Procedure
Step 1  Ensure that the Cisco Unified Communications Manager and IM and Presence software versions are compatible.
Step 2  Gather all the information you need to complete the installation and configuration of the IM and Presence software.
Step 3  For every node in your cluster, create virtual machines using the Virtual Server Template (OVA file) recommended for your current release.

Different OVA files are available; choose the correct OVA file based on the environment in which you are deploying Cisco Unified Communications Manager.

Step 4  Configure subscriber nodes on the publisher node before you install a subscriber node. From Cisco Unified CM Administration on the publisher node, choose System > Server and configure the IP address for the subscriber nodes. For more information, see the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration Guide.
Step 5  Ensure that the IM and Presence server has network access to the Unified Communications Manager publisher server.

You can ping Unified Communications Manager from other servers.

Step 6  Ensure that you turn on the Cisco AXL Web Service on the associated Unified Communications Manager server.

Select Tools > Service Activation in Cisco Unified Serviceability.

Step 7  If you use DNS, ensure that you have configured the hostname of the new IM and Presence server on the DNS server and that the DNS server can resolve the hostname of the Unified Communications Manager publisher server and of other IM and Presence servers (if any).
    Caution

Cisco recommends that you use the same DNS servers between IM and Presence and Unified Communications Manager. If you use different DNS servers, it is likely to cause abnormal system behavior. Both Unified Communications Manager and IM and Presence must either use or not use DNS because Cisco does not support mixed-mode deployments. If you are using the multinode feature in IM and Presence, see the Deployment Guide forIM and Presence Service on Cisco Unified Communications Manager for DNS configuration options.

DNS and Domain config passed the test... hmmm...
We'll try to make a fresh install of the CUCM, maybe it's seeing the old IM and Presence registration on the CUCM (because we are making a fresh re-install of the Presence)   Just maybe...

We're in the process of re-installing the CUCM,

but we managed to get these dumps with one last try on Installing the CUP (IMPS)

Can you run this on your CUCM PUB and post the results

run sql select userid, enablecups from enduser where enablecups='t'
run sql select count(*) from enduser where enablecups='t'

    if this helps, please rate

    Hi Jaime,

    Attached is the result.

OK, if you had any users configured before the actual server was installed, it could cause that problem, seems is not your case.
