Inter-digit timeout problem only with MRA Expressway/CUCM

nanosynth

Level 1

What I have = CUCM 10.6, Expressways C/E 8.5 setup for MRA phones, 7811/DX650/Jabbers. What is the problem? When I dial from any phone registered to the CUCM on the inside, to any MRA phone or Jabber registered to the CUCM through the Expressways on the outside, I reach the 15 second timeout before the MRA endpoints ring. This is in a super small lab, so all the phones/MRA/Jabbers start at extension 700701 and go up to 700711. There are no route patters or translation patters or overlapping anything. These phones are all in the same partition/CSS and just dial each other. So if I call from internal extension 700701 to an MRA phone, say extension 700709, it takes the full 15 seconds to ring the phone, BUT, if I pre-dial the 700709 extension on the internal phone and press "call" afterwards, any phone that I call on the outside that is connected to my Expressways, rings instantly. So internal to external extensions (external being the ones registered to the Expressways to the same CUCM) is a full 15 seconds unless you pre-dial and then send at once (enbloc I believe?), then it rings instantly. This includes the Jabbers on the outside as well. OK, so if I dont have any route patterns, because none are needed, they are all just registered phones so they all know about each-other (extension 7007XX), what am I up against here with these Expressways's MRA devices acting like this? Sure I could make the T302 timer shorter, but why? There is something amiss some-wheres else. Any suggestions?

Does the same happen internally?

Can you post the DNA output?

When I dial internal to internal to internal, the phone rings immediately. No trouble this way. When I dial from an MRA phone that is registered to the Expressway over the internet, like my MRA 7811, to an internal 7942 phone, I am forced to key in the 6 digit extension number and then press "call". If I pick up the MRA phone, get the dial tone, then start to dial the 6 digit internal extension, the call immediately fails, but having just recently learned all this Expressway integration, I just took it as "i have to dial this way" from an MRA phone to anywhere else, be it internal extension or outbound PSTN number. If that is not the case, and something is wrong in this scenario, then I need to figure out why, but after I work on the inter-digit timing thing. To answer your question about the DNA test results, they are below. Extension 700702 is an internal 7942 and 700712 is the DX650 MRA to Expressway over the internet phone.  Do you see anything wrong?

I was able to fix this delayed dialing from internal extensions to MRA registered Expressway Jabbers/Phones. Although I really dont know why I had to do this, as I had no overlapping anything, I just enabled the "Urgent Priority" checkbox on the DN associated to the MRA Jabber/Phone. It works magnificent.

Hi,

DNA tool generally don't give us complete clue around dial plan issues.

Is it possible for you to have SDI traces captured while making the problematic call?

For sure, there is a overlap somewhere when you are hitting Inter-digit timeout and also the difference in the DNA output is the device through Cisco Collab Edge showing as "Unregistered".

Ashok.

I really, really wish I could believe there was 'overlap' somewhere, then I would have found the problem, but I cant find any overlap. My phones (internal and Expressway registered MRA phones/Jabbers) are all extension 7007XX. If I had overlap I would think I would have the problem dialing from internal to internal phone, but I dont, I only hit the timeout when dialing from internal phone to Expressway MRA registered phone or Jabber. When I realized that one DNA had the MRA phone as 'unregistered', I had to plug that phone in and re-do the DNA, which is in the second post after my first DNA one. This is all I have for route patterns below. I have translation patterns but they are only translating the inbound 11 digit SIP DID's to the various internal extensions or Unity call handler for my UCCX. My UCCX CTI's are all in the 152XXX range. Its such a small lab setup. Since I am not satisfied with just 'checking the box' for urgent priority on the Expressway registered devices, I will un-check them and take SDI traces and look for something there.

I fixed it! I am never too shamed to admit defeat and then explain where I was wrong. Ok, so while configuring this entire Expressway project I had a route pattern in my system that looked like this, for IP address dialing.  !*!*!*! It is right out of one of the Cisco config guides. I had this pattern pointed to my Expressway-C route list, and then I just didn't pursue the IP dialing thing anymore and never thought twice about this not used funny looking route pattern. When I screen shotted my previous screenshot, I deleted the  !*!*!*! before the screen shot and then started in on troubleshooting with dialing and SDI traces and noticed I did NOT hit inter digit timeout. Believe me, I kept thinking what ashok_boin was saying about 'overlap' and how I just didn't have any, yeah, sure I didn't.. I put that pattern back in and then pulled the SDI traces and saw exactly after each digit I dialed, one by one, I saw the word 'overlap' in the traces. Well I'll be! What is interesting about this is that the  !*!*!*! route pattern did not affect internal to internal extensions dialing, and mind you I only have one partition and one CSS. It ONLY affected internal to MRA expressway registered devices. I just took it completely out of there, do I really need to dial by IP? I dont think so..

Hi,

Glad that you could able to finally fix the issue :)

You might have seen the below document to have this pattern " !*!*!*! ".

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/unified-communications/telepresence-video-communication-server-vcs/118884-config-vcs-00.html

Cisco CUCM does not support IP address dialing natively so the above is just a work around. However, Cisco CUCM interprets the above pattern along with other patterns in the same partition in usual manner so hitting to Inter digit time out issue.

Coming to back your other question...

1. Internal to Internal - works normally as the destination internal device number is the BEST match.

2. Internal to Endpoints behind Expressway - Cisco CUCM sees 2 x patterns (one is specific to your device and another " !*!*!*! " pointing to Expressway trunks) so hit "overlap" issue.

Hope this clarifies.

Again happy to see this towards a solution. Congratulations indeed :)
