Replicate UCS SAN Boot Volumes

pgirish_2000

IHAC that uses UCS blades extensively in their Prod DC and is in the process of building a new metro DC. As part of that, they plan to have "standby" blades in new DC and are exploring replicating boot volumes to new DC so that they can bring up these blades, using replicated boot volumes and some orchestration engine, in case of a disaster scenario.

Do we have folks in the community who have implemented this and willing to share their experiences around it ?

Thanks...

Greetings.

I have had a few cases for bare metal UCSM BFS where customers thought the destination/DR site blades/service profiles had issues, and it almost always ended up being incomplete copies of boot LUN.

Most of them have been windows servers, so not sure if the san replication mechanism has a harder time dealing with locked/open files on Windows.

Don't generally hear of wide spread issues that much with the Vmware guest level replication.

I would also be curious what is successfully being used for baremetal BFS lun replication (especially Windows hosts)???

Thanks,

Kirk...
