VN-Link in hardware is implemented on UCS using the PALO adapter using VN-Tagging
Can the Nexus 1000v also tag traffic with a VN-Tag in the case where non-Cisco servers are used?

C'mon, Cisco! This is a question about basic 1000v and VN-tag functionality.
Does the 1000v add a VN-Tag to achieve VN-link in hardware or is it ONLY a VIC card that can do it?
The use case I am thinking of is having the 1000v add the VN-Tag and then leveraging SR-IOV on a NON-CIsco adapter to map a vmnic to a VF, which in turn would be mapped to a vETH instance on the 5000/5500?

Here is some pertinent information from a Cisco document:
Deploying VN-Link with Network Interface Virtualization
• For traffic going from the server to the network, the interface virtualizer identifies the source vNIC and explicitly tags each of the packets generated by that vNIC with a unique tag, also known as a virtual network tag (VNTag).
• For traffic received from the network, the interface virtualizer removes the VNTag and directs the packet to the specified vNIC.

The Nexus 1000v does NOT use VNTAG.

Then Cisco should update its documentation and make that point a lot clearer.
