Tone generation on PAP2T

One of my customers uses an PAP2T ATA in their phone system . The line with the ATA continues to generate a tone similar to the tone generated when you depress any number key on a phone set. =The tone can oly be heard by the person on the other end of the phone and not the phone connected to the ATA. I have changed analogue phones and changed out ATA's but still can not find the source of the tone. I am in the process of changing the ISP. Any further suggestions?

Do you have installed  latest firmware version?

Can you capture logs of your PAP?

Regards.

Hi Daniele:

Thank you for your response. I recently purchased the ATA. I can only assume that it has the latest firmware. I will check to ensure. I am not sure of the process used to capture the logs. Since my original post, we have also changed the router, cable modem and the ISP but the "beep" continues. The "beep" is generated at random. There is no consistancy as to the intervals or duration spent on the call. We are at a loss.

Some Linksys devices generate fake beeps. This issue is documented in some cases like this:

- CSCso34152: DTMF strict mode does not stop all “talk-off” beeps.

- http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/VoIP-Routers/SPA2102-BEEP-during-calls/td-p/211188

- http://forum.voxilla.com/cisco-linksys-sipura-voip-support-forum/random-beeps-pap2t-32847.html

This issue can be fixed in two way:

- disable all DTMF relay and send DTMF in band (can be generate problems with IVR if you use compressed codecs);

- upgrade the firmware and use DTMF strict-mode (best way);

Regards.
