Introduction

How to configure to hide the SSID from the GUI on the Cisco IOS-based access point

Resolution

In order to hide the service set identifier (SSID), the access point ideally does not broadcast the SSID. Complete these steps in order to stop the broadcast of the SSID:

  1. Choose Security > SSID Manager.

  2. At the bottom of the page, find the Guest Mode/Infrastructure SSID Settings.

  3. Remove the SSID from the Guest Mode in order to stop the broadcast of the SSID.

cisco disable ssid broadcast mode

Note:

Some wireless cards do not work properly if the SSID is not broadcasted, since the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and WI-FI standards state that the SSID should be broadcast.
