For a firewall it is better to have informational if you have a solution like MARS.For the logging retention it depends on the country laws and the company policies.I think 6 months is the least you should have.

Check to see if the LMS solution polls your 6509 for the whole routing table or ARP table this can cause high cpu utilization.If this is the case just filter the polling procedure of the LMS server.Take care
