The Pix501 does not provide support for vlans.Vlan support was introduced on other Pix firewalls from 6.3.Hope this helps

Do you mean that the VIP does not have to be an IP within either of the circuit Vlan's associated with a port on the CSS.If so, how does traffic get to the CSS...do you just route it from above down to the IP ?

The term client vlan actually represents an interface between the CSM and the 6500's L2 and L3 vlan.If you have multiple routers connecting to your 6500, they will be associated vlan(s) n the 6500 as any other vlan is...you define the balanced server...
