Resize Cluster ACI

Hello,

We have 6 APIC controller with detail below:
1. APIC-SERVER-M1 (node1)
2. APIC-SERVER-M1 (node2)
3. APIC-SERVER-M1 (node3)
4. APIC-SERVER-M3 (node4)
5. APIC-SERVER-M3 (node5)
6. APIC-SERVER-M3 (standby)

We want to remove APIC-SERVER-M1 and resize the cluster size become 3.

The question is what the proper way to resize the cluster with the existing condition?

Thanks.

No, it should be standby APIC, node-5 and node-4 otherwise it can cause cluster issues. What you could probably do is after you reduce the size of cluster from 5 to 3, and cluster is fully fit, you can then decommission apic 2, replace with newer server. Then finally decommission apic 1 and replace with newer server as well.

Hi There,

If you would like to reduce the cluster size from 5 to 3, retaining the standby APIC, then you would have to decommission standby APIC> node 5> node 4 in the same order and delete them from cluster. Then you need to reduce the cluster size to 3 from 5. Then you need to clean up one of your decommissioned APICs and configure them as standby if required..

Detailed steps is given in this link - https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/aci/apic/sw/1-x/troubleshooting/b_APIC_Troubleshooting/m_cisco_apic_cluster_management.html#concept_4AA688CF06B744A29685039ADB7C6394

Hope that helps!

Hi Anirukas,
Thanks for the response in this post.

Can I decommission APIC-SERVER-M1 node3, node2 and node1?
because APIC-SERVER-M1 is already EOS, i want to remove it from cluster, and retain APIC-SERVER-M3 node4, node5 and standby APIC in cluster and reduce the cluster to 3.
