CSM does not affect HSRP.

HSRP uses multicast to exchange its messages.

If both MSFC were active, it means they were not receiving multicast traffic.

Unless you are trying to send these multicast accross the CSM, I don't see how the CSM could play a role in this problem.

Release Notes

Insertion, removal, hw-module module reset of CSM causes OSPF and HSRP

to go down then up. on 7600 running 12.2(17b)SXA2

Issue can also be seen on 7600 if the device is booted and the CSM comes up

after OSPF/HSRP has been established.

Single CSM in chassis only though, two CSM's don't see the same efect

the issue reported in this bug only occurs at the time you insert the CSM - not 2 weeks after.

Also it is a flap - not both MSFC going into active.

So, this bug has nothing to do with this issue and I can't see how the CSM could be the culprit here.

HSRP is using multicast ip address to exchange hellos, so all devices in the vlan should receive the packets and there is NO WAY a device could prevent another one to receive a multicast packet.

The problem must have been at layer2 on the switch itself.

Gilles.
