I am looking for feedback from other professionals in the networking world. The company I work for is looking to research some emerging technologies that we can implement on our network. Is there anything out there currently that is considered "hot" technology? Any input would be greatly appreciate it. Thanks...

One of the emerging technologies today is SAN (Storage Area Networks). Storage Area Network (SAN) is a high-speed subnetwork of shared storage devices.A SAN's architecture works in a way that makes all storage devices available to all servers on a LAN or WAN.Because stored data does not reside directly on any of a network's servers, server power is utilized for businessapplications, and network capacity is released to the end user. You could try implementing SAN on your network.

Sure,
there are the WAN optimizing devices that can "compress" data in a WAN link increasing the capacity of traffic in that link. Some can also "accelerate" several applications and protocols in order to increase throughput and keep the link fully utilized.
