Hi,
I'm not even sure if what I want to do is possible, I've got a sneaky suspicion it's not, so I thought I'd ask the people that would probably know before I waste too much time searching the Internet only to be let down in the end
I work for a large company and support hundreds of computers. Sometimes it's handy to know which switch their computer is connected to, when we're trying to diagnose network issues. etc. At the moment, we just use Cisco Prime LMS Search and enter the IP address, or hostname etc. of their computer. This works ok, but I wondered if there was a command line tool or something, something I could then export into other scripts we use. All I need is the name of the switch, nothing clever.
Here's hoping!
Cheers,
Graybags

We use a product called AKiPS.
There is a function called port mapper and if I enter the IP address or the MAC address it will generate, in a single page, the IP address, MAC address, switch name, VLAN and what port.

Thanks for the reply. The "LMS search" software we currently have to use works, it tells us the info you mentioned. I was just hoping there was a far simpler way of finding it out, via a command line tool or or something that I could then use in other scripts.
