Hello,

I have a pair of Nexus 5520 running version 5.2.1.N1.3.bin. The average CPU is over 90% and the show processes cpu sort is showing me that the syslogd is consuming most of my CPU.

I am using the following logging configuration

logging level feature-mgr 0

logging level vpc 6

logging level aaa 5

logging level cdp 6

logging level lldp 5

logging level snmpd 3

logging level radius 5

logging level tacacs 5

logging level monitor 6

logging level session-mgr 6

logging level spanning-tree 6

logging level interface-vlan 5

logging message interface type ethernet description

logging event link-status default

no logging logfile

logging server X.X.X.X 5 use-vrf default

logging server X.X.X.X 5 use-vrf default

logging timestamp microseconds

no logging module

no logging console

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Hi all

Keep in the mind, spikes of high CPU utilization on the Cisco Nexus is a normal activity. Viewing the CPU history is valuable when correlating a network event with the past CPU utilization.Cisco NX-OS takes advantage of CPU multitasking, so processes can take advantage of an idle CPU to complete tasks faster. Therefore the show process cpu history command might display CPU spikes that are not necessarily a problem.

Additional investigation is required if the average CPU remains close to 100%. If you have a logging level setting, such as 6, many messages are generated and performance can be impacted, try change the logging level on the chassis check if your system performance is significantly slower or non responsive if YES raise a TAC with Cisco to additional investigation
