I have a device (iPad/ Apple School Manager) that I need to essentially do a factory reset but I want to make sure I do not eat up a license? I have removed any paid app licences. Do I reclaim the MDM license before I "Erase Device"?

You can just delete it out of systems manager to clear out the Meraki license usage.

If you simply need to reset the device because of an issue I would use the erase command with the dashboard and then go through the setup steps on the device.

If you are going to set it up for a new user / different purpose use the erase device and then adjust the tags in SM accordingly.

If you are retiring the iPad use the erase option and then delete it out of the dashboard which free up the SM license.
