Announcing a call and putting through to VM

Hello, I'm using a Cisco model 8851 phone.  When I receive a call for a specific person, hit the transfer button and announce the caller to the intended recipient, the recipient can ask that I put the call through to his voicemail.  I'm just trying to find the appropriate steps to do so.  Do I end the call (extension/recipient), resume the call on hold (caller), announce that I will put the call through to voicemail, hit *, then recipient's extension, then hit transfer again? Please let me know if I'm missing a step or doing too many!
