ASA 5500-X Failover - Different Models

We're looking to deploy two ASA's, one in each Data Centre, we already have an ASA-5525-X but we are considering purchasing an ASA-5545-X for the other Data Centre.   Is it possible to configure these two devices in an Active/Standby pair?

Or do we need to have identical hardware in each DC?

Thanks

That's not possible.

ASA failover pairs must have the exact same hardware (model, memory, interfaces, and modules).

Reference: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/security/asa/asa95/configuration/general/asa-95-general-config/ha-failover.html#ID-2107-00000019

That's a bummer that its not possible to add 2 different models in to HA pair, as migration to larger models would be so much easier.

currently running 5512-x planning to migrate to 5545-x, so still -x line, but bummer cant add into cluster.

We are using VPNs etc., any suggestions how to migrate?   Using ASDM backup config and import config?  Will that grab all the required info for IPsec tunnels, remote VPN configs etc.,?

Thank you,

Eimis
