They have to be the same model, if you are using PIX515E as primary, standby have to be PIX515E, cannot mixed them up with ASA/PIX for failover purposes..
they must be identical...same model, same interfaces, same modules, same ram... same OS (you can run slightly different OS versions while doing an upgrade of the failover pair).
the only difference can be licensing.
