ASA5545-X

Hi all,

I'm a student doing home-lab practice with an ASA 5500-X / FirePOWER setup. Cisco has since removed these files from the download portal, so I can't verify them against the official checksum anymore.

Could someone who downloaded these directly from software.cisco.com (with an active account) please share the official MD5 or SHA-512 checksum for:

  • asasfr-5500x-boot-6.2.2-3.img
  • asasfr-sys-6.2.2-81.pkg

I want to verify my copies before loading them onto hardware. Thanks in advance!

  - @sBence268            Checksums can be verified without having a service contract,  just by hoovering
with the mouse over the file which you want to get the MD5 or SHA-512 checksum for.

Hi @sBence268 ,

Unfortunately you won't find any image for the 5545-X that is older than 6.4.x.

Also finding someone who downloaded your exact version of firmware and kept the MD5 checksum is not impossible, but chances are very low.

On the other hand, this being a lab setup, verifying the MD5 checksum is not that critical. Try to keep the ASA isolated from your home network to be on the safe side.

Hope this helps.

Hi @sBence268,

why do you want to use such old versions?

Instead you may want to get a look at the following thread to see how you might get your hands on more recent versions:

I agree that it's not critical to verify checksums in this scenario. If the files are corrupted, they will not allow the Firepower service module to initialize properly.

Also, the number of real world installation of those modules remaining is approaching zero. I would encourage you look into getting a free lab instance of FTDv or ASAv VM. Those can be current versions and be much more representative of what's running in the real world.
