If you don't want to upgrade the primary to 7.x I would recommend bringing both versions to 6.3(5). 6.3.(5) is a maintenance release and just fixes a bunch of bugs in the 6.3(3) image.
This is a guide for upgrading to 7.x from 6.3. Covers all the changes. It also includes the upgrade procedure to 7x and the downgrade procedure from 7.x to 6.3.

Why don't you upgrade the primary unit to 7.2?
6.x is too old now...........
