I'm upgrading all of our IPS appliances and started a local upgrade on the first one at 7PM. It's still at 26% running the script 200_pre/500_stop_system.sh... It's been running for over an hour now. Do these upgrades always take this long or am I experiencing a problem?
The task status window won't show a status either.

During the update, if you exit the web interface and log back in, it will give you an accurate reading of how far the current update has proceeded. It will also give you a link for the log of the current script.

They can take several hours, especially on a busy sensor. There is a system log file you can tail if you want to watch the minute by minute details.
If it hasn't progressed after watching for over an hour, you can always open a TAC case. The Sourcefire team at the TAC is quite knowledgeable and can quickly determine whether your upgrade requires intervention to get it back on track.
