int status down on Fwsm

After creating a new vlan with conf:

interface Vlan56

nameif xyz

security-level 71

ip address 10.80.207.1 255.255.255.0

ospf cost 10

Am not able to ping on to this int and the int status is showing down even after giving no shut command.What is blocking?

If you do not add the VLANs to the switch before you assign them to the FWSM, the VLANs are stored in the supervisor engine database and are sent to the FWSM as soon as they are added to the switch.
