Is it a best practice to use the PIX interface as the LAN gateway ?

We use to have our cisco 3845 gi0/1 as the LAN gateway before a re-design and now, the LAN responce time is really slow, could this be a cause of using a PIX as the LAN gateway ?

If you have multiple subnets I don't suggest using a PIX to route between them.

No it do not have multiple subnet, also the PIX is configutred as a VPN to the corporate office
