Does anyone know if the PIX (6.3) will recognise a host with an address 10.10.1.0 (with a mask of 255.255.0.0)

The pix doesn't have any issue with the networks with 0, like yours 10.10.1.0 . Maybe you have a
route that is not letting go out the traffic when you use the network 10.10.1.0 .
