Both PIXes in a failover bundle appear to have crashed & reloaded simultaneously.
The pix details are as follows:
Hardware: PIX-525, 256 MB RAM, CPU Pentium III 600 MHz
Flash E28F128J3 @ 0xfff00000, 16MB
BIOS Flash AM29F400B @ 0xfffd8000, 32KB
System image file is "flash:/pix704.bin
Both pix firewalls have the following error message:
Thread Name: Dispatch Unit (Old pc 0x001fe7c6 ebp 0x014d7b44)
According to Cisco the PIX Firewall/Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) running software version 7.X can crash with the Thread name Dispatch Unit error when the Extended Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (ESMTP) inspection engine is enabled. The issue can arise while you process segmented SMTP/ESMTP packets. The problem occurs when the data length for segmented packets are miscalculated. Cisco suggested that I disable ESMTP inspection although there are hardly any ESMTP packets going through the firewall. I have disabled ESMTP inspection, Is there another workaround? I am just concerned that both Pixes crash at the same time.
