MDS switch replacement steps

Looking for documentation on how to replace existing production 9506 with a 9706.  Thank You.

) Configure Management interface.

) Create VSAN's

) Set Zone distribution to match the existing switch

). Add static Domain ID's for each VSAN.

) set priority so as to select the correct principal switching during ISL merge.

) Configure ISL (min 2 links) to only trunk VSAN 1

) Add prod VSAN's to ISL and verify

I am not sure though if I have missed out any other critical steps.

I assume you want exactly the same configuration (with the exception of network blade specifics) ?

I would save the output of "show running config", most likely edit some information which is interface specific, then go the 9706 (of course after setting up a mgt ip address), do a

config t

paste your edited configuration

Recently had a case with a customer that was using zoning with some of the FC interfaces for the storage processor ports.

When they replaced the switch, they copied the show run for the zoning.

When you edit the config and add the member fc x/y info, the MDS will append the SWWN.

If you happen to be using some member FC interfaces in your zoning, make sure you remove the SWWN entry at the end of the lines, as it will reference the original switch.

Zoning on FC interfaces is generally not best practice, but sometimes used if there are virtual storage target WWPNs in use, etc.
