There are 2 sides of a JBOD controller: disk side and host side.
Compare Fibre Channel switch or arbitrated loop with Ethernet switch or bridge;
Ethernet bridges were many years ago cheaper than switches; however, this is history; you hardly see any Ethernet bridges.
Same happened with FC; I think you hardly find any Arbitrated loop (bridges) devices, and therefore all the limitation of this technology (e.g. bandwidth sharing between many devices) is history.
