Another easy way to resolve this issue is to use a hosts file and put the entry for that server in there. hosts files are not a very flexable solution but it does work. now when you "ping servername" it should go. Still need wins though to access ...
I am not entirely sure either. Same thing gets installed for vpn 3000 client. I do know that when I set sygate personal firewall to block it or uncheck it from network neighborhood, you cannot connect to vpn concentrator.
