hmm, i had a feeling it would be a bug, aren't i running the latest IOS for C3640 ? does that mean i'll have to change hardware ? thank you so much for the replies
if i execute the sequence manually, the prompt changes to "Core(config-slb-sfarm)#" and i'm able to execute the remaining commands without problems or prompts.
