The Ironport ESA is shipped with a self signed demo cert. As a result of this most browser will generate cert errors. These errors will go away if you purchase a cert from a know CA(Verisign, Thwate, etc.).

Are you using the hosted key server(res.cisco.com). All secure replies composed on res.cisco.com are encrypted by default. You can put in a request with Ironport support to have secure replies get sent out over TLS, instead of being encrypted.
