Yes... usb to ethernet will not do anything for you. You will need to buy a usb to serial (db-9) connector. The only trick is that the com port will not be the standard com 1 and that is based upon the setup that comes with the connector.
Im not sure what you are really asking but you can configure most scenarios with what you have. The linksys is moot and the pix will help very little unless you are going on for security. Depending what type of 3500 you have... for example 3550s......
