yeah all work will be done out of hours. So, when work is complete I could still have the L2 switching network with one of the switches act as the router? I am thinking after all work is complete the network will perform the way it should.

Super, yeah makes sense.. Enabling ip routing, will that effect the current state of the switch? Currently it's part of a 4 switch L2 network and I really don't want to isolate the switch in any way. So my aim here is to send the VLANs to the switch ...
