Hello,

I cannot ping the APIC simulator after assigning OOB ip address. The address is assigned to apic-eth1 and virtual switch is in promiscuous mode and all other setting set to accept. Any ideas how to get this to work? I am installing on ESXi host

Hi @mannycho

@Robert Burns has probably answered this, but I'll expand.

When you do the initial setup of the ACI SIM - you MUST leave:

  • The Fabric name at the default
  • The Fabric ID at the default
  • The number of controllers at 1 or 3 (depending on the setup you chose if you were quick enough when the VM first boots)
  • The POD ID at the default
  • The controller ID at the default
  • The controller name at the default
  • The TEP address poll at the default [10.0.0.0/16]
  • The Infra VLAN ID at the default [4]
  • The multicast address pool at the default.

You CAN change

  • The OOB IP address
  • The password

AFAIK, any other change will cause your simulator VM to FAIL - such as not even responding to OOB IP address pings

Did you change ANY of the default setup configuration values other than the OOB Mgmt IP?

Yes I did, and found other threads that advise not to change the defaults, thanks. I find that at times I loose connection to the APIC and can no longer ping the OOB IP address assigned. Disconnecting and reconnecting the vnic seems to work for me. Sometimes I disconnect both vnic and connect only Eth1.

How much memory (RAM) do you have assigned to the VM?

Robert
